Totilas: the living legend

08/05/2020

Totilas is probably the best known and most spectacular dressage stallion whose extraordinary charisma and influence have left their mark far beyond the dressage world.

The stallion of all records

With three world records and three gold medals at the World Equestrian Games, everything about Totilas is exceptional....

At the European Championships in Windsor in 2009 he set world records in Grand Prix and Grand Prix Freestyle.

At the age of 9, Totilas broke the 90% barrier with his rider Edward Gal and became a legend. In 2010 he reigns as an absolute master on the international dressage scene where he literally flies over the major events, regularly flirting with the 90% mark and regularly leaving the runner-up 5 points behind him...

And it was in October of the same year that Edward Gal and Totilas became the first couple in the history of Dressage to win all three world titles at Windsor: team 84.04%, individual 85.708%, and Kür 91.80%.

Totilas' offspring

Beyond his own performance, Totilas is a sought-after sire. Totilas' offspring are a credit to their illustrious sire on arenas around the world. Under the saddle of Isabel Freese, Total Hope won the Burg Cup with a score of almost 80%, the second highest score ever achieved in this prestigious competition for young horses in dressage. Previously Total Hope had already won bronze at the Young Dressage Horse Championships for 7 year olds. Glock's Toto (ridden by former Totilas rider Edward Gal!), Top Gear, Governor, Birkhof's Topas, Go legend, Gladiator, Genuine, are all out of Totilas. Also a son of Totilas, Total Recall, sold for 200,000 euros, was the most expensive foal of all time!

But enough talk... I'll let you see, or re-see, these historic minutes during which Totilas, who was still called Moorlands Totilas at the time in 2009, won, at 9 years old, this Grand Prix Freestyle with 92,3%...
