Johnson TN, best dressage stallion 2022 according to the WBFSH ranking!

05/12/2022

The new WBFSH (World Breeding Federation of Sport Horses) ranking is out! And it is the stallion Johnson TN who occupies the n°1 position; he already occupied it in 2020, had left it in 2021 to leave his place to Sandro Hit but is well and truly back at the top. The stallion Quaterback is second in the ranking and on the third step of the podium, we find Sir Donnerhall I.

Johnson TN at the top of modern dressage

The bay stallion, who turned 20 in 2022, is a son of the champion Jazz, with a dam by Flemmingh. He arrived at the age of four in the stables of rider Hans-Peter Minderhoud and has never left. It would take a book to present his entire record of achievements, but to summarise: he was KWPN Stallion Champion in 2005 at 3 years of age, finished 6th at the World Championships in Verden at 5 years of age and has distinguished himself in the most important international events. He won the team bronze medal at the World Equestrian Games in Caen in 2014, the European Team Champion in Rotterdam in 2015, won the Grand Prix of the CDIO5* in Rotterdam twice, in 2015 and in 2016, ... His immense production has performed well in breeding and sport, and his regularity in the Top 3 of the best dressage sires for several years confirms this.

Quaterback, 2nd in the ranking

Quaterback's career was a huge success in terms of breeding. The son of Quaterman with a dam by Brandenburger was born in 2003, and died of colic in 2021, aged only 18. Despite this, of his 1052 offspring registered as sport horses, 72 sons have been approved and 90 are going out in dressage at Grand Prix level. And among his 70 stallion sons, we find well-known names: Quaterbold, Quaterdance, Quadroneur, Quaterhall, Quaterkoenig, ... all of whom have performed on the international scene and in breeding.

Quaterback's production can also be found in a number of horses of the German dressage team: Pathétique, born in 2008 out of a dam by Casado, won the Grand Prix in Neumünster at the Dressage World Cup in February 2019 under the saddle of Dorothee Schneider. Quintus, born in 2008 out of a dam by Florestan I, finished 6th in the same competition, ridden by Isabell Werth.

The podium is completed by the famous Sir Donnerhall I

The stallion that Paul Schockemöhle bought as a foal has proved to be an outstanding sire, at least as good as his sire Sandro Hit. Born in 2001 to German breeder Maik Kanitzky, Sir Donnerhall is a son of Contenance D, by Donnerhall.

In sport, Sir Donnerhall was Reserve Champion of his licensing in the Oldenburg studbook in 2003, won his performance test and was German Champion and Reserve World Champion 5-year-old in 2006. His great success in breeding prevented him from going further in sport.

Sir Donnerhall's offspring have conquered the dressage ring up to the Grand Prix. Sai Baba Plus was notably placed in the World Cup and competed at the European Championships in Gothenburg in 2017. Galliani Biolley has been placed in the Nations Cup and Semper Fidelis, Sir Caramello and Sir Donato and many others have also had numerous international successes. Sir Donnerhall has produced 97 licensed stallions and 193 state prize-winning mares.
